“Put what remains in order, and appoint elders in every town” – Titus 1
Recently, one of the top leaders of Protestant churches in Congo traveled around the country to survey the situation of thousands of village pastors under his watch. He was astonished and heartbroken by what he found. 90% of the village pastors had no Biblical or leadership training. Thousands of pastors did not even own their own Bible. The pastors, along with most of the people in their community, lived in extreme poverty. The church leader challenged Glory Honor Africa to respond by focusing on training and by providing Bibles for village pastors.
More evangelism and church planting efforts are needed. By 2050, the population of the Democratic Republic of the Congo will more than double, from the current 96 million to 194 million. In order to keep pace with the growth, the number of churches in the country also needs to double. In addition, churches all too often have little or no positive impact on the communities in which they live. The need is for gospel-centered church planters with the vision and skills to see transformation of individual lives, families and whole communities.
Glory Honor Africa is responding to the challenge. To this point, we have trained more than 2,000 pastors and evangelists through our vision casting seminars. In the Spring of 2022, we held our first trainer of trainers with eighteen pastors who had been implementing our first level training. A number of these trained pastors are already planting new wholitice, transformational churches, and some are already leading their own training seminars with pastors in their regions.
Our goal for 2023 is to hold at least twelve vision casting conferences throughout the country. In addition, we plan to carry out two intensive four day trainer of trainers conferences, one in eastern Congo and the other in the west.
We are also working on a partnering relationship with an agency that provides training and solar powered recorders in order that workers in remote locations can play the Scriptures to people in their own indigenous languages.
2023 Project Cost: $ 34,400
